I bought one of these and ended up sending it back, thinking it was no longer Mac compatible with newer High Sierra updates, but it turns out I was wrong. I bought another one and tried this and it works! There are some settings that need to be changed to make it work. I don't know why this is a secret, the company apparently doesn't update their forum website very often. There is a post on the Contour forums that describes the settings (thanks to the user that posted it!) but basically you need to click 'allow' in the Security and Privacy>General tab in System Preferences during the installation (I found it after installing the software and then restarting, then going straight to the preference pane). Second, you need to go to the 'Privacy' tab in the same Security & Privacy preference and add the Contour Shuttle app to the Accessibility.

Boom. Works. Really nice to be able to jog through Final Cut Pro and to step frame by frame using the middle dial. Love it. Buttons all are mappable to custom functions.

I originally bought this in Apr 2016... and didn't like it... bec it couldn't do something very simple -- emulate the mouse wheel with the inner circular control.

Well, recently (Dec 2017), for RSI relief reasons, I wanted a separate set of mouse buttons, so I dug it out of storage.

Lo and behold: It looks like the software has since been updated!!! Now I can do all my common clicks and scrolls on it! It's wonderful -- I just ordered a second unit for my office PC. I don't know when exactly the software was updated to add mouse wheel support... and it also seems to be much smoother on Win 10 too... Love it.

I owned one of these on a much older Mac and LOVED it until it broke 10 years later. I'm now buying one again for a 2017 Macbook Pro (running 10.13) for use with Adobe Premiere. After nearly 15 years, this Shuttle looks and feels the same but there's no real point in fixing what's not broken.

The layout of the buttons is perfect for one-hand operation, making it easy to memorize the button placement quickly and speed up editing without having to look at the device. The top 3 buttons actually have indents for your finger tips to rest on so you can constantly feel where your hand is in relation to the device. The center dial has a rubber coating for better grip and it's very responsive to gradual increases in fast forward and reverse, plus it returns to center each time. The inside jog wheel is a lifesaver for finding the perfect frame to cut on, one of the most annoying things for me when just using a mouse.

For some users on Mac or PC, the features my be plug and play, but newer operating systems and/or apps may need additional set-up since the Shuttle Driver isn't always revised as quickly as the apps it uses and they won't "talk" to each other. You'll see on the company's tech support forums, newer Mac users (2017-) may have to tweak some Shuttle settings in order to "teach" your Mac how to "see" the device and read the apps you're trying to use with it. None of it is very difficult for an average computer user if you know the steps.

The common problem on the forum for Mac users is a recent security protocol where Apple will try to block the app during the install as a safety precaution, but that's an easy fix with a few button presses.

My biggest issue was the Shuttle Driver not connecting with Adobe Premiere, in fact, the Shuttle Driver didn't even recognize that it was installed on my computer, despite it "seeing" all the other Adobe apps. With the gracious help from their tech support (less than 24 hour response) they helped me get the rest of the way there. If you find that one particular Adobe app isn't working, you can select the closest app name from the list on the Driver and then follow the "Settings" (gear) button at the bottom. Choose "Copy to new settings" and then find and select the app from your folders. Restart the computer and you should be set!

I'm giving it 4 stars simply because of the extra steps needed to "force" the Shuttle to work with some set-ups.

Nice concept and obviously works in the Mac world if it was still 2007, but it is 2019 folks and Nether Mac or Window PC's are what they use to be anymore and here is company making an Okay product without any clue how to write drivers for it. Good example on Windows I launch Premiere Pro were I would need the Jog wheel to work and guess what the jog wheel won't because it stays on Global settings no matter what setting I set it too and always says explorer has focus. Don't get me started on the Mac side... it just gets worse!
Bottom line buy something else from any other maker Contour design don't know what they are Doing!

I do a lot of video editing, and I installed this on my studio system. So, I have this device on the left, keyboard in the middle, and a Magic Trackpad on the right.

The unit comes with a software program, and once you load it, the device is pretty much plug-and-play. It comes with pre-installed templates for many applications. For, example, if I am in the iTunes app (I work with Apple/Mac), then the unit performs things, such as: controlling volume, changing songs, and other standard iTunes features. If you switch to another app, the unit then changes to help you control it.

I you do not have a template for your application, or if you just want to change what it controls in the app, no worries.

You simply open the software, and choose the template you wish to change. If you do not see your application in the provided templates, the software allows you to add it. I doubt that there is an application that this unit cannot control.

Another brilliant feature, is that you can have more than one template per application. For example, sometimes when I am doing video editing, I want the keys to work with scanning the video, and creating markers. At other times, I want the keys to perform hard cuts, and post editing. So, I created several templates for my video-editing software (Adobe Premiere), and use what I need... when I need it. Brilliant.

When I am humming along with this device, I shave about 20 percent off my post-editing time. If my project takes me a week (5 work days), that is one day in five.

This is my second unit... The first one, took a drink of coffee, and expired. So, as great as this little timesaver is, just remember it is not waterproof :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Cost Effective Jogger!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 1, 2020

I thought jog wheels were expensive and mostly used for video production, but then I came across this and found it could do what I wanted it to do at a reasonable print. Having just put together a digital piano setup in my lounge comprising piano (naturally), mixer, imac and lightning, I thought this would be a great idea to use to skip YouTube piano instructional videos. The previous alternative was stop whilst playing to pinpoint small buttons on the YouTube interface. With this device, I can simply reach and turn the wheel to job back a few moments to learn the notes if I missed them the first time.

All that was necessary was to program 4 functions:

* Fullscreen Youtube (F11) - Right middle button
* Play / Stop - (Space) - Left middle button
* Timeline Back (left keyboard arrow) - Left wheel
* Timeline Forward (right keyboard arrow)

The wheel function can be used to retain a single speed, or to speed up incrementally the further you turn the wheel. I set mine to a single speed since I only need to job back 10 seconds at most in the majority of situations.

Software installation was a breeze and although 'Bare bones' it doesn't need to be anything else. It's simple and functional. Just make sure to have your system open the software upon boot if you want it to be ready to use.

This device has helped me learn piano so much more effectively. I'm a graphic designer and content producer by trade, though I haven't ventured into using this for anything else and don't see the need to. the option is potentially there for anyone else though - particularly those people involved in media. I'd imagine it will work just fine with the Adobe CC suite.

My only 2 gripes iare that the wheel is very shallow and therefore a distance from optimal. Jog wheels usually have a fair bit of height as resemble a heavy, old school, hifi volume knob. On this device however, streamline, modern design appears to take priority. Next, I'd have liked more surface area for my palm to rest rather than reaching downwards upon it in a claw like fashion. This of course is rectified with the premium model...whichadmitedly, I am considering.

Overall, highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Ottimo per lightroom e Capture One

5.0 out of 5 stars Tolles Ding

Reviewed in Germany on October 3, 2020

Hinzu kommen 5 programmierbare Tasten.

4.0 out of 5 stars Contour ShuttleXpress Multimedia Kontroller
